Father - 1914/15 trio to 57918 S Sth J F Le Couteur RGA

 

James Fleury Le Couteur was born in Runcorn Cheshire in 1870. He was married with five children; the 1911 census found James living at 9 Lyon St Runcorn. His occupation was Blacksmith 

 

James served Shoeing Smith in the Royal Garrison Artillery. He had attested on 10th November 1914 for the Army Service Corps but was transferred to the RGA seven days later. His pension papers are slightly blurred, but he looks to have served in a Volunteer Royal Artillery Unit (territorial) in the pre-war years. 

 

James served in France from 21st December 1914 until 20th April 1916. Discharged on 11th May 1916, the reason given was 'not likely to make an effective solider'. He was 48 years old at the time.

Son - Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society Medal to Phillip Le Couteur

 

Phillip Le Couteur was born in Runcorn, Cheshire in 1902.

 

Philip was awarded the  Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society Medal in Bronze for his actions on 8th July 1943. He rescued a woman from drowning in the Bridgewater Canal, at Runcorn on 8th July 1943. 

 

The medal wasn't presented until 25th November 1946, due to war shortages. 

The medal is correctly engraved = To Phillip Le Couteur For gallant service 8/7/1943

Condition = Near Mint in the box of issue.

 

The group comes with two original documents and two copy photographs of both men.
