William Henry Shore was born in 1893, in New Whittingham, Derbyshire
At the time of the 1911 Census, he was serving as a driver with 125th Battery RFA. Arrived on Western front on 6th Oct 1914, serving as a gunner
A gunner with 29th Brigade RFA 125th Battery, he went on to serve In Italy and was awarded the Military Medal, gazetted 28th March 1919.
Two newspapers announced his award of the Military Medal and provided a little more information
Belper News 1st August 1919 stated, Awarded the MM for “ Keeping a gun in action under very heavy shell fire in Italy”
Derbyshire Courier 16th August 1919 wrote, Awarded the MM for “ Gallantry on October 29th 1918, Italy. He displayed conspicuous bravery under fire, keeping his gun in action - mentioned 5 times before he won the MM”
