Three Clasp IGS Medal and QSA/KSA to 4011 Pte J Ross Gordon Highrs
John Ross was born in Bellie, Elgin. He attested aged 18 on 8th October 1891, giving his trade as Grocer.
He was awarded the Indian General Service Medal with clasps Relief Of Chitral 1895. Punjab Frontier 1897-98 and Triah 1897 – 98.
Ross served in the Second Boer War and was awarded a Queens South Africa Medal with bars Relief of Ladysmith, Laing’s Nek and Belfast. Also awarded the Kings South Africa Medal with bars South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902.
John was discharged in 1902 as medically unfit after spending a period in Hospital in Pretoria
