MSM and possible Monte Cassino MID group to Lieutenant Colonel R J Buggy RAMC
Richard John Buggy was born in Netley Hampshire in 1906. He served with the Royal Army Medical Corps as an officer during the Second World War. He had been a pre-war regular awarded the LSGC as a SJT and MSM as WO Cl 1.
Buggy served with the 164th Field Ambulance in Italy as Lieutenant Quartermaster, and it is highly likely he was Mentioned in Despatches for Monte Cassino. The 164th was part of the 5th division which fought at the battle. He was recommended for the MBE on 25th May 1944 which was downgraded to a MID, the original citation;
' This officer has performed the duty of Quartermaster with outstanding success. By his untiring energy and attention to detail, he has set a fine example to his unit. His determination to maintain medical supplies in difficult circumstances has contributed much to general efficiency and has been an example to the entire medical service of the division.'
