Laurence Edward Cherryman was born in 1903 in Portslade, Sussex.
He saw service with the 2nd Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment on the North West Frontier in Indian during 1930-31 and was awarded the Indian General Service Medal.
Cherryman was attached to the Indian Army Corps of Clerks. He was sadly killed in action fighting the Japanese at Imphal in Burma on 1st July 1942. At the time he held the rank of Warrant Officer Class 1 Conductor. Laurence is remembered on the Rangoon War Memorial.
