Great War MM group to 50947 Pte T Kirkland 2/8th Liverpool Regt
Thomas Kirkland resided in Dundee Scotland, in civilian life he was a Gas worker.
He originally enlisted into the 2/6th Liverpool Rifles but on 18th August 1917, he was posted to the 2/8th on 20th August 1917.
Kirkland was awarded the Military Medal, announced in the London Gazette on 23rd February 1918. A likely action for the MM was when the battalion was holding the Houthust Forest Sector on 28th December. The Germans staged a heavy attack at Turrene Crossing. A company of the 2/8th led an abortive counterattack.
Thomas survived the war and died in Dundee in 1936.
