Michael Logue was born on 24th March 1888 in Glasgow. On the 19th of September 1914, he enlisted, joining the Highland Light Infantry. On the 21st June 1916, he was transferred to the Machine Corps, serving with them until August 1921. During the Great War, he had suffered wounds to the Neck and Buttocks. He first served in Gallipoli landing there on 2nd July 1915.
He joined the Royal Air Force on 9th September 1921 as a fitter, training to be an Aeronautical Engineer. Burns served in Kurdistan and despite a few periods in detention was in later years awarded the LSGC.
