A pair to 66498 Pte R. Hyde. West York R.
Reuben Hyde was born in Kimbolton in around 1880. Before the war he worked as a store man. His medical records from the time of his attestment show the need for man power at the front. He had an operation due to a ruptured Hernia and had a chest problem that ‘will improve’.
The rest of the papers are fairly standard detailing his promotion to un paid Lance corporal and then his gun shot wound. He shot by machine gun on the 1st November 1918 at Valenciennes. The bullet went up through the base of his little finger into his hand. It must have been a very bad wound as he spent 70 days in hospital. He was finally discharged in 1919 with a gratuity payment of £18.00
