Victory to 67721 Pte William Yeardley KOYLI

An interesting Victory Medal to William Yeardley. Yeardley was born in Sheffieldsupposedly in 1897. He attested on the 10^th December 1915 joining the 3^rd battalion KOYLI. On his descriptive report on his enlistment states his apparent ages as 18, which then has a cross through it and 19 written in its place. Interestingly it seems Yeardley wasn’t posted abroad 29^th October 1918. On the 27.10.1918 he was charged with desertion, the following was entered into his service records:

Absent without leave from 16-10-1918 to 22-10-1918. In open arrest awaiting trial by Court Martial for Desertion dispensed with by order of G.O.C. No.3 section. Humber Garrison d/ 26-10-1918 (No.3 Section Letter A/462/D.T dated 26-10-1918 but orders instead of being tried by Court Martial he shall suffer the same forfeitures and deductions from pay (if any) as if he had been tried by a District Court Martial of the said offence. All former service forfeited on conviction of Desertion. Service towards limited engagement reckons from 26-10-1918.

His papers contain a signed confession.

He was still issued with a pair.
