Alan was born in Newchurch, Lancashire, Englandin 1898. He was sadly killed in action on the 30th of April 1916, while serving with the 17th Battalion of the Manchester Regiment. Alan is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial. The medal index card confirms his entitlement to a pair.
