David was born in Newmonkland, Lanarkshire in 1894 the son of Robert and Jennie Turner.

David’s medal index card confirms his entitlement to a pair, the medal index card make no mention of previous service stating only Northumberland Fusiliers. However Soldiers Died Great War states that he previously served with the Bute Mountain Battery Royal Garrison Artillery.

David sadly died of wounds on the 26th of April 1917 while serving with the 27th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, the 4th Tyneside Scottish. He was laid to rest in the Aubigny Communal Cemetery Extension.  

The medal looks to have been worn on a watch chain at some stage.
