12310 A.W.O. Cl. 2. A. Root Essex Regiment.
Alfred Root was from Southend he landed in France on 30th May 1915. Awarded an MSM, gazetted 17th June 1918 he was also Mentioned in Despatches while attached to the 35th Light Trench Mortar Battery, Gazetted 9 July 1919. Root later went on to serve in the Royal Army medical Corps.
