William Bell was born in Newcastle upon Tyne. Entitled to a trio he landed in France on the 28th of August 1915. William was part of C company 11th battalion of Northumberland Fusiliers when he died. SDGW lists William as having ‘Died’ however his Medal Index Card states ‘Presumed Dead’. Possibly killed in action and his body later recovered, obviously near impossible to prove.
William was laid to rest in Gordon Dump Cemetery, Ovillers – La Boisselle. His next of kin is given as his wife Esther Jane Bell of 64, Back Street, Winlaton, Blaydon, Co. Durham.
Please note Bell is entitled to a trio, however the 1914/15 trio is missing. The group comes with a solid silver Saint John’s Ambulance watch fob and a brass lapel badge.
