Pair to 277566 Pte J Hartley Man R

Joseph Hartley was born and enlisted in Blackburn. He died of wounds while serving with the 2/7^th battalion of the Manchester Regiment on the 1th of June 1917. He was laid to rest in the Bethune Town Cemetery. Included with the pair is a photocopy of Hartleys original obituary from a local paper. There is a small photograph of him and the following text;

‘Private Joseph Hartley (29) Manchester Regiment, has died a ta a casualty clearing station of wounds received in action in France. He enlisted in August 1916 and was drafted to France in February of this year. Prior to joining the Army the deceased was a tailor at Daisy field Co – operative stores, and was connected with St Stephens Church and Secondary School. Private Hartley was an ardent sportsman, being a referee of some repute. He was at one time president of the tailors association and was a member of the Loyal Green Bank Lodge of Odd fellows ( M U). Deceased leaves a widow and one child who reside at 38 Derby Street’
