Silver War Badge ( 60477) PS/682 Pte H Moore 19th R/ Fus.
Harold Moore attested on the 9th of September 1914, joining the 19th battalion Royal Fusiliers, 2nd public schools battalions. Arriving in France on the 14th of November 1915.
Four pages of pension records survive and show that Moore was discharged due to a gunshot wound to the right hand, which shattered numerous bones. The gunshot wound was in fact self-inflicted. He was tried by field court martial and was awarded 21 days field punishment number 1. Perhaps a genuine accident as he was lucky to escape execution.
He was discharged due to his self inflicted wound on the 31st of August 1916. An interesting and unusual story!
