Henry George Bugler was born in Weymouth, Dorset in 1894. At the time of the 1911 census he was living at Rodwell Mews, Rodwell Road, Weymouth. His occupation is listed as ‘Assistant Business’
He attested on the 15th of September 1914, having 3 years of previous service with the Dorset Yeomanry. He served as a Motor Cyclist with the 1/1st Dorset Yeomanry, landing in Egypt on the 22nd April 1915, before moving to Gallipoli. He was invalided home on the 21st of September due to a case of Stomatiti.
Bugler later transferred to the 17th Squadron of the Machine Gun Corps ( Cavalry). On the 11th of June 1917 he was awarded 7 days number 2 field punishment by his commanding officer for being ‘Unshaven of parade’.
Bugler was killed in action on the 17th of November 1917 and is remembered on the Jerusalem war memorial.
