Ramshaw Mitchell was from Wallsend on Tyne. A miner by trade he served with the Northumberland Fusiliers for 6 days before transferring to the RND.
He was present in Belgium in 1914. He later went out to Gallipoli and suffered a Gunshot wound to the back 3rd May 1915. It seems he recovered quickly as he was wounded in action again on the 14th of July 1915 with a Gunshot wound to the right leg.
He was invalided back to the UK and spent five months in hospital. He was discharged in January 1916 and issued with a Silver War Badge.
