Rowland Abernethy was born in Tarbert, Kelly in 1882. He attested as an 18 years old in Dublin on the 10th of September 1900.
During the boer war he served with B supply Company of the Army Service Corps. Awarded the QSA with 02 and Cape Colony bars. The medal has ghost dates visable
When I bought the medal I was told he had been discharged insane in 1912. However service papers show he was discharged in September 1914, with a lifetime pension due to no longer being physically fit.
A medal index card is on line for a Rowland Abernethy (ASC) showing that he landed in France in the summer of 1915 before being discharged in 1916. Probably the same man and some pages of his services papers are missing
