Richard Cook was born in St Margarets, Bungar, Norfolk in 1871. A fisherman by trade. He served in the Royal Field Artillery during the Boer was and was awarded the Queens South Africa Medal with bars Paardeberg, Driefontein, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, Wittenberg and Cape Colony. Also the Kings South Africa Medal with bars South Africa 1901 and 1902.
The medal roll on ancestry states he served with 1st Corps Troops Ammunition Column (R F A Section) Became 6th Divisional Ammunition Column 9th Divisional Ammunition Column.
