Heath Gillens was born in Washington Colliery in 1896. At the time of the 1911 census he was working in the mines as a Cartman and living at 9 Engine Square Washington Colliery Co Durham.
He joined the Northumberland Fusiliers on 8th December 1915 thus he is entitled to a pair only. Discharged 29th January 1919 due to sickness and awarded the Silver War Badge. B119262
