Robert was born in Pelaw on Tyne, Durham in  1897. Aged 14 he was working a Brick Layers Apprentice. 
 
Entitled to the Pair only, he was sadly killed in action on 7th June 1917 while serving with the 9th battalion of the Yorkshire Hussars, he is remembered on the Menin Gate. 
 
CWGC states Yorkshire Regiment, however, Soldiers Died Great War says Hussars 
 
The frame is a contemporary piece; it is a typical homemade type.
