Walter Speight was born in Leeds. He attested on 10th December 1915, joining the West Yorkshire Regiment.
 
Transferred to the 12th battalion of the York & Lancaster Regiment upon his arrival on the Western Front, on 15th December 1916. 
 
Walter was sadly killed in action on the 4th of May 1917 and is remembered on the Arras Memorial.
