John William Ramsdale was born in the small hamlet of Kepwick, near Thirsk in North Yorkshire in 1891.
 
He attested in October 1915 giving his occupation as Labourer and his address as 14 Swan Street, Darlington. 
 
He served in France from mid-1917 and survived the war.
