Percy Edward Joynes enlisted on 7th March 1919 aged nineteen, joining the Sherwood Foresters. He quickly progressed through the ranks,  Corporal 1928, Lance Sergeant 1929. He was granted an emergency commission as Lieutenant remaining with the Foresters. 
 
Joynes spent the full war in India. He retired as Honorary Captain in 1946 and sadly died of Leukaemia in 1956.
