Provenance – DNW November 29th 1996. 

John Edward Shalliker was born in Bury, Lancashire, in about 1896. A Labour by trade, he attested for the Manchester Regiment in 1903

To France and Flanders on August 15th 1914. Shalliker was awarded the DCM, which was announced in the London Gazette on June 30th 1915 for the following action; 

“For conspicuous devotion to duty in bringing up ammunition to the firing line at Le Cateau and at Festubert on October 27th 1914, after two men had been killed in the attempt.”

Shalliker survived the war.
