Robert Brownfield was born in Kent in 1873. A lifelong Merchant Sailor, he served in the Great War and was tragically killed in action during the Second World War on 9th September 1940. His ship S.S. Mardinian was torpedoed by U-28, 
 
Robert is remembered o the Tower Hil Memorial.
