With a number of original photographs of his time in service and later life.

John Edward Bartlett was born on the 6th of February 1892 in Hackney, London. At the time of the 1911 census, he was living in Walthamstow and working as a 'Sawers Wood Assitance.' 

 

He joined the Machine Gun Corps with service number 10481, was transferred to the Essex Regiment with service number 21775 and then went back to the MGC with his previous service number. 

 

He was entitled to the pair. His Belgium Croix de Guerre was gazetted on the 9th of July 1918 and is thus a confirmed award. 

 

He served in Salonica, and I believe also on the Western Front.
