Battle of Tobruk POW group to Pte G P Fox Green Howards

1939 to 45 Star; Africa Star; Defence Medal; War Medal, and Territorial Efficiency Medal.

TEM correctly impressed 4390172 Pte G P Fox Green Howards.

George Peter Fox was a farmer from Hittons Ambo, near Malton, North Yorkshire. He was born on 19th June 1920 and attested on 19th January 1939. 

 

Fox served with the 5th Bn and was part of the rearguard action, which covered the retreat at Dunkirk. He managed to be evacuated back to the UK and, after rest and retraining, was posted to the Middle East with his Bn.

 

He was captured at the end of the 'Battle of the Cauldron' on 1st June 1942. The battle formed part of the Tobruk campaign. Fox was held in camps 1VG and 1VC.

 

Fox was awarded the TEM in 1948.
