Watson served in India on the Northwest Frontier from 1930 to 31 with the 2nd Battalion Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. 

 

During the Second World War, he served as a Sergeant in '6' Commando he is listed on the roll on the website Commando Veterans.org.

 

'6' Commando was formed in July  1940; the unit took part in Operation Archery, Operation Myrmidon, Operation Bristle, Operation Torch, Operation Overlord, Operation Blackcock, Operation Plunder.

 

After the War '6' Commando was responsible for, among other duties,  hunting German war criminals.
