Charles Walters was born in Tibshelf, Derbyshire, in 1878. As a young man, he served in the army for three years with 1st Bn Notts & Derby Regt, spending a year in South Africa and a period in Hong Kong. He joined up on 11th October 1897., giving his occupation as Collier. 

 

Discharged due to being unfit, he settled back into civilian life and worked as a Miner. On 7th September 1914, he reenlisted, joining his old regiment and was given service number 2295.  

 

He served in France from 29th June 1915 to 21st December 1915, when he was sent back to England due to complications from Knee surgery. He was discharged in May of 1916. 

 

Charles passed away in 1940.
