George Spraggon Cooper was born on the 17th of April 1927 in Houghton Le Spring.  
 
He joined the British Army in the final months of the Second World War and remained in the Army post-war. He saw service in Malaya, Borneo, Malaya Peninsula and South Arabia. I was told that Cooper was a Landing Craft Operator.
 
Awarded the Long Service Good Conduct Medal, in later life, he became a Chelsea Pensioner, passing away in Chelsea on the 15th of December 1996 aged 69.
