Charles Young was born in West Hartlepool in 1860 at 165 Throston Street.

 

In adult life, he moved to Darlington and became an Iron Worker. He joined the British Army on the 12th of August 1882 at Aldershot, becoming a Commissariat and Transport Corps member.

 

He served in Egypt for 255 days, from 16th November 1882 until 27th April 1883. He was awarded the Egypt Medal without a bar and the Khedieves Star for his service. 

 

In later life, he  worked as a Merchant Seaman.
