Indian General Service Medal to 4086 Pye A Black 2nd KOYLI

 Alfred Black was born in 1869 in Stockton on Tees. In civilian life, he was a  Plater in the Shipyards. On the 28th of December 1882, he joined the British Army at Stockton on Tees.

 

He was posted to the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry and spent most of his service in India from 27th November until 10th May 1898, when he was sent home due to suffering from server Ashma. Throughout his time in India, he was hospitalised numerous times due to attacks and cases of STDs.

 

After his discharge, he moved to Hartlepool and got married in 1901. At the time of the 1901 census, he was living in Princess Street, and at the time of the 1911 census was living at 28 Conyers St West Hartlepool. He had resumed his civilian occupation as Ship Plater. He had three children with his wife within eight years.

 

Sadly he passed away suddenly in 1912, perhaps of his Ashma.
