The Military Medal was gazetted on the 19th of April 1945 with the following citation.

 

' Since 20th March, 44, Pte Edwards has carried out the duties of Regimental Signaller with a Coy of the 2nd Bn The Kings Regt. The spirit in which he has performed his duties, often under the most adverse conditions, has won him the greatest admiration of his officers and comrades. He has always fulfilled his task irrespective of the personal danger entailed, displaying a true devotion to duty in keeping with the highest tradition of the British Army. On one occasion, on the 26th of June 1944, Pte Edwards, during an approach march to the attack on Gioiella, 348915, became detached from his Coy when the carrier in which he was travelling was hit. On his own initiative, he followed up the axis of advance alone and found himself in the enemy lines. He succeeded in surprising two Germans in their fire position and took them prisoner, then having discovered the whereabouts of his Coy, returned immediately, realising the importance of his 18 set.

During the whole of this time, he was subjected to intense enemy shelling, mortaring and MG fire, for a long period, and only by his personal bravery and determination to fulfil the task did he achieve his objective, which was to establish communications for his Coy, without which it is doubtful whether the attack could have been so successful.
