Frederick William Court was born in 1872 in Twickenham, Middlesex. He enlisted for the first time on 3 January 1889, joining the Royal Engineers. 

 He saw service during the Boer War with the 12th Field Company; he was awarded a Queens South Africa Medal with six bars for his service, confirmed on the role.  

 After the conflict, he left the army and became a Decorator. He married and had four children. The family resided at 4 Trentham Street, London. When the Great War broke out, he again enlisted on 11 September 1914 and rejoined the Engineers (Mounted). He was promoted to Corporal again after one day.

Court landed in France on 31 August 1915, rising to the rank of C.Q.M.S; he reverted to Sergeant at his own request a few weeks later. Due to his age and a case of Dysentery, he was sent back to England and later employed at the National Filling Factory, No7 in Hayes, Middlesex. He was fully discharged on 7 August 1917.  

His son Thomas Patrick Court joined the 3rd Hussars on 28 October 1913. He served in the Great War and was discharged on 14 January 1919. He was later admitted to Asylum in 1923.
