Frederick Hudson was a native of Leed, Yorkshire. While serving in Normandy with the 7th Bn Green Howards in August 1944, he was awarded the Military Medal, the citation is as follows;

'On 2nd August 1944, Pte Hudson was acting as Coy runner. The Coy was carrying out an attack on the AMAYE SUR SEULLES feature supported by tanks. The forward platoon was pinned by fire at very close quarters and in a very exposed position. Pte. Hudson moved up with the Coy Comd to this platoon. 

The Coy Comd decided that he must get back information about the enemy to the Bn commander urgently. To get to Bn tactical HQ quickly involved a move over very open country under intense fire which subsequently was found to include at least 8 spandaus and 4 81 mm mortars. Although a less direct and more covered route existed, Pte. Hudson, without hesitation, took the shorter and more exposed route and got back the information necessary to lay on artillery support. It was this support and that of the tanks which enabled the battalion to reach its objective. 

Subsequently Pte. Hudson made the same journey once in each direction, and on each occasion the fire was intense. By his personal courage, lack of concern for his own safety, and outstanding devotion to duty, Pte Hudson very materially contributed to the complete success of the attack'.
