Francis Charles Lax was born in Stockton on Tees in 1893 a Telegraphist Sorting Clerk by trade. At the time of the 1911 census he was living at 27 Russell Street, Stockton on Tees. He had joined the post office in 1909.
During the Great War he served as 182112 L/Cpl F C Lax Royal Engineers. With the 63rd Divisional Signal Company. Awarded the Military Medal which was gazetted on 1st February 1918.
His brother Gilbert Steele Lax was killed in action with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment
Awarded the Imperial Service Medal for service with Post Office.
