Memorial Plaque – William Rielly.

Condition NVF to VF ( edge bruising to the MM under rank and contacting to regt. Heavy contacting to number of BWM from the star and official correction to initial and ‘R’ in Reilly. Please note the different spelling of surname on the MM. The medals have obviously been worn by his next of kin on numerous occasions over the years.

William Reilly was born in St Phillips Sheffield in 1895. In civilian life he worked as a Spoon & Fork Stamper. At the time of the 1911 census he was living with his widowed Father and sibling s at 31 Snow Lane, Sheffield.

He joined the 3^rd Bn York and Lancaster Regiment and  landed in France on 15^th January 1915. While serving as a Lance Corporal with the 2^nd Bn he was awarded the Military Medal, announced in the London gazette on 18^th December 1916.

William was sadly killed in action on 22^nd April 1917, he was laid to rest in St Patrick’s Cemetery Loos
