 Arthur Watling was born in Norwich, Norfolk in 1880. In civilian life he worked for the Post office as a Telegraphist.

He joined the army on the 17^th of May 1900, serving in the Postal Division of the Royal Engineers, earning the Queens South Africa Medal.

During the Great War, he again served with the Royal Engineers, landing in France on 21^st September 1915. He was invalided home and survived the war. In 1921 he was awarded the TFEM as a Corporal.

He returned to the post office in civilian life and died in 1945.
