William Simpson was born in Lhanbryde, Morayshire, in 1897. A pre-war territorial with the Seaforth Highlanders, he was sadly killed in action with the 6th Bn on the 16th of May 1917. He is remembered on the Arras memorial and the Elgin War Memorial. He had been renumbered 266379 at the time of his death.
The Volunteer Force Long Service Medal likely belongs to his father.
