Thomas William Hindmarch served with the 10th Bn Durham Light Infantry. He won the Military Medal in France in June 1944. the award was announced in the London Gazette on the 19th of Ocotber 1944. The citation is as follows;
 
' On the morning of 18 June 1944 at ST PIErre L/Cpl Hindmarch's company was clearing enemy from an orchard overlooking TILLY-SUr- SEULIES. A Spandau was giving particular trouble, and his platoon was nearly out of amn, L/Cpl Hindmarch decided to stalk it, and knocked it out with 36 grenades, killing the crew of three. His platoon was ordered to withdraw owing to a shortage of amn. L/Cpl Hindmarch carried a Sjt 1/4 mile to the SBs and was later instrumental in evacuating 11 other casualties under enemy fire.  On this and on other occasions L/Cpl Hindmarch has shown outstanding qualities of courage and leadership.'
