Sold with: A Princess Mary Tin and Bullet pencil. A 1939/45 Star, Africa Star with 8th Army bar, Defence Medal and War Medal. Possibly belonging to a family member. A wooden box he made as part of a woodwork exam. Army discharge documents, a letter stating that he was evacuated to Gurnsey during WW2 and train tickets from said evacuation.
William Cuthbert Raine was born in Witton Gilbert in 1890. He served with the 18th DLI during the Great War, landing in Egypt on the 23rd of December 1915. He was later transferred to the Royal Defence Corps.
In the post-war years, he moved to the Channel Islands until the threat of German invasion saw an evacuation from Gurnsey. He returned after WW2 and died there in 1952.
