Emmeline Cicely Nichol was born in 1872, the daughter of Jean Pirie and Robert, a doctor who passed away when Emmeline was very young.
 
In 1904, Emmeline married Samuel Kirshbaum, who in 1924 became Bishop of Jarrow. 
 
During the Great War, Emmeline served in the VAD in France from 28th September until 28th September 1916 at NO14 General Hospital. She is entitled to a 1914/15 Star. 
 
Emmeline passed away in 1955, and she is buried alongside her husband in St Cuthbert's Cemetery, Durham.
