A Regimentally Unique Military Medal and Two bars to Sgt Collinson 9th Bn Yorkshire Regiment

Only 180 2nd bars were awarded during the Great War. 

Joseph Hay Collinson was born in Durham. The London Gazette entries show he resided in Kirk Merrington near Spennymoor.

During the Great War, he served with the Yorkshire regiment, firstly in the 2nd Bn before transferring to the 7th and 8th. His final Bn with the Yorks was the 9th. 

The award of the Military Medal and the 1st Bar were both announced in the London Gazette on the 17th of December 1917. The 2nd Bar was announced on the 17th of June 1919, showing he was still a member of the 9th Bn.

Collins later served with the 45th Royal Fusiliers, which was formed in London in April 1919 and disbanded in December 1919. The Bn was on the River Dvina Front in September 1919 and embarked at Archangel on the 26th/27th for evacuation to England.
