Military Medal gazetted 28^th August 1945, the original recommendation;

On April 16^th 1945, during the operations for the capture and consolidation of Wildeshausen, Sjt Gower’s gun was deployed in the forward company area. A sudden counter- attack was launched by the enemy infantry, using small arms and Panzerfausts, and penetrated the forward positions reaching Sjt Gower’s gun.

By this time the detachment together with the SP gun were virtually surrounded. In a display of initiative and bold leadership, this NCO so rallied and led his men that he brough to bear continuous and rapid small arms fire upon the enemy fighting them off at close range.

Under the fire power which Sjt Gower brough to bear the enemy was eventually compelled to withdraw in disorder having suffered causalities and leaving four dead behind them.

Sjt Gower’s fearless command and devotion to duty were instrumental in successfully defending the SP gun and inflicting a severe reverse upon the enemy’
