John Lambert was born in Bentley, Ipswich in 1828, in civilian life he was a Labourer.

He attested aged 18 on the 14th of December 1843, saw service on the Crimea and in New Zealand. All his awards are confirmed, Lambert was discharged after 22 years on the 24th of July 1866.
