Sidney Nixon was a native of Redcar, North Yorkshire. He was commissioned as a Sub Lieutenant in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve on the 24^th of June 1915.

With the Royal Naval Air Service he served with armoured cars and was hospitalised in Alexandria due to Dysentery. On the 26^th of Spetember 1916 he was posted for Airship Pilot training, which he passed.

Nixon was awarded the OBE, gazzeted on the 3^rd of June 1919.
