Theophilus Steele was born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1879. A civilian life he worked as a Slater,

Steele joined the Northumberland Fusiliers on the 14th of January 1915. He landed in France on the 20^th of April 1915, with the 4^th Bn he won the Military Medal, which was gazzeted in September 1918.

He survived the war and was discharged in March 1919.
